So I decided to get crafty and make diffuser bracelets to give as holiday gifts. I coupled them with small dram sizes of Orange or Lavender Oil. They are a big hit among my friends and colleagues! The school smells great! Back to the craft store I go!!! I see a weekend of crafting ahead! Also making Chest rub for my hacking school friends!
SO I get many friends asking me… “Aren’t you scared?”, “How do you let him go?”
My husband is a police officer and in these times things can be a bit scary. This is my hubby’s second career… You know that job you always dreamed of doing? The one you said, “if I could do it all over again I would…” Well he DID IT! (That story is another post!)
Here is my thinking. I could fear every night he goes out, yep he works 5 pm – 5 am and be consumed with this fear quite easily… or I could resolve to know that his training, gut and men and women in blue have his back.I chose the second!
I encourage you to take the time to think about the fact that the men and women who go out each day to protect you are HUMANS. They are not “out to get you”. They are just doing their job and they have families to come home to. Take a quick second to say hello! Believe me I know they love to be acknowledged! Know they are real people with real feelings and behind them is a loving wife, husband, mother, father, sister, brother and maybe even children.I am blessed to be part of a really great group of women who provide support. They know what it is like to be the wife of a law enforcement officer. They are a “tribe” of women who stick together, chat online at all hours if need be, contribute back to the community, and do oh so much more!
If you are feeling isolated or alone I encourage you to reach out and find what you need. These women have taught me YOU ARE NEVER ALONE!!!
As much as I try to keep myself positive some days the boiling point just feels low! I know I can’t be the only parent that has these days. If you have ever had a teenager you know my pain, if you have had a bipolar teenager than you really KNOW my pain!
I love to hear, “Well IF he were my kid…” It is so easy to throw stones but if you haven’t walked in someone’s shoes sometimes it is best to just listen and be there without judgement. In my case I say, “it is like stopping a speeding train.” You can WILL the train to stop but it won’t, you can yell and scream at the train for it to stop but it won’t, you can take away the train’s windows but it will still keep moving. I have to believe that somethings are just out of our control. Otherwise I am gonna beat myself up!
Today I am choosing my battles carefully because otherwise, I a bubbling over the top. Please tell me I am NOT the only one. I am trying to see the silver lining. He is not into drugs, drinking, and other life dangerous things. He is not sick, (physically), He has some wonderful qualities. We are just going through a rough road. Although it has been a lifetime for him on this road. I am working for a smoother tomorrow! Still learning how to parent a bipolar teen. Hoping tomorrow will be better!
If you have never experience a bipolar teen be thankful! The roller coaster is a hard and fast ride! Last night my 16 year old bipolar teen decided NOT to go to sleep (at all). AND YES he IS at school TODAY!!! Well this lady NEEDS sleep! So being woken up at 3:30 am to the sound of the television, then the shower, blender, cat meowing, dog barking all before MY real alarm was set to go off at 5:30 am does not make this lady happy! So no sleep and gray skies and cool weather means I AM MAKING MY OWN SUNSHINE today! Here’s my recipe for today!
1. Reading other people’s blogs feeling their pains, celebrating their celebrations sharing the joy in the images they share- SUNSHINE!
2. Diffusing peppermint, only way I am staying up. (Don’t drink caffeine although by three I MIGHT!!!)
3. Listening to children read. If you haven’t had the joy of listen to children read this is a must! Fills your heart with pure SUNSHINE!
The aromatic smell of lavender can do so much! This powerful scent can settle a baby, help you relax, calm an ADHD child. This is one oil I diffuse regularly in the classroom. I have seen the most active child settle after diffusing this! It is a wonderful oil to use during yoga and meditation!
It also has an incredible power to heal! From cuts to scrapes to burns lavender can do it all! Just a tad on a burn will take away to awful sensation! Keep a bit handy in a spray bottle with distilled water for little ones! make a cream for eczema!
Use it alongside peppermint, and lemon for an allergy remedy. 3 drops of in a diffuser will help control yucky seasonal allergies, 5 drops each in a capsule and you will start feeling relief soon! AMAZING Relief!

I have been a teacher for 22 years. Special Education, Reading Specialist. Something magical happens when you depart information to people and they grasp on to it and take it on as their own. I have always enjoyed learning and found my passion for teaching early on. Blessed would be the WORD for this!
Finding great success with the oils myself I feel like I want to go to the highest mountain top and shout… “Just try them!” I see people suffering with ailments that the oils can help even if it is temporary it is relief.
I love the forum on Facebook events for the classes! What a GODSEND this has been! I have been able to reach people I could never get face to face with! I have even reached out in other countries! Although face to face education is BEST online is a great opportunity to reach anyone! OK… Anyone on Facebook!

I have not found an appliance I have been more in love with! Love my Keurig, microwave, hair dryer, Crock Pot and Magic Bullet, but none hold a candle to my Home Diffuser!
Never heard of a diffuser? Neither had I before July 2013 until I entered the world of essential oils. And now I CAN NOT live without one! This is what it is! It combines a humidifier, air purifier, atomizer, and aromatherapy that safely releases essential oils into the air to eliminate odors and create a spa-like atmosphere. Sounds glorious right? Well let me tell you it is! What one product can take you back to your childhood, put you to sleep, help you when you are sick? None… The key is in the nose!
The olfactory system includes all physical organs or cells relating to, or contributing to, the sense of smell. When we inhale through the nose, airborne molecules interact with the olfactory organs and, almost immediately, the brain.
Molecules inhaled through the nose or mouth are also carried to the lungs and interact with the respiratory system. Thus, inhaled essential oils can affect the body through several systems and pathways.
Interaction with the Limbic System (Emotional Brain)
During inhalation, odor molecules travel through the nose and affect the brain through a variety of receptor sites, one of which is the limbic system, which is commonly referred to as the “emotional brain.”
The limbic system is directly connected to those parts of the brain that control heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, memory, stress levels, and hormone balance (Higley & Higley, 1998). This relationship helps explain why smells often trigger emotions. Knowing this, we can hypothesize how inhalation of essential oils can have some very profound physiological and psychological effects!

So, depending on the oil you place in the diffuser the reaction of the body is different.
Once taking 2 different sleep medications now just Cedarwood Oil, Peace and Calming Oil (tangerine, orange, ylang ylang, patchouli and blue tansy), valerian root and melatonin I can get a great night’s sleep. This was something I once thought an impossibility without a script! Natural products allow me to function daily with a clear brain. two years ago I would have NEVER believed this to be possible.
I now have 3 diffusers! One in my bedroom for sleep, kitchen for the common areas and in my classroom (my home away from home).
CAUTION: I had someone who had heard me talk about my diffuser and they ordered one online. Within a week theirs had broken and they wanted to know how long mine lasted. All I can say is Young Living’s diffusers come with a 1 Year warranty. I would NOT be buying mine online from Amazon or from Whole Foods as I like that I can return it within a year if it were to break. I can say my first two diffusers, that are over a year a still going strong. My latest one the Bamboo Diffuser used EVERYDAY!!
From the scent of Christmas with cinnamon and orange to sleepy scents like cedarwood, Peace and Calming and Lavender to waking up with Lemon and Peppermint I will NEVER be without one of these handy appliances again. Addicted? YES!!!!!
